Facebook, Twitter and Your Yahoo! Store

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by Matt Sampson - Colorado Web Solutions

Social Media and Networking are the biggest buzzwords we’ve hear this year right behind talk about the economy. It’s huge. Everyone’s doing it (more on that shortly), but to maximize your time and financial investments in technologies like Facebook, Twitter and MySpace you should really understand your audience. It’s easy to spend time and money on these sites so I think it’s extremely critical to know who you are marketing to.

I found a recent study by The Nielson Company very interesting in this aspect. The news wasn’t a surprise to me, but it was nice to confirm that my theories and beliefs about these platforms was extremely accurate. After spending 13 years designing businesses online, I’ve seen a lot of change in users, technologies and trends…

According to the Nielson report, more than 50% of the entire country has participated in some form of social networking on Facebook, MySpace or Twitter in the last year. Of those people, your Facebook users are typically the more affluent and the MySpace crowd is a younger (MUCH younger), less affluent group (keep in mind that age is a factor since these are high school and younger college kids). The report also showed that the majority of Twitter users and even Bloggers are based in Urban areas.

Colorado Web Solutions Launches 3 New WordPress Sites

Posted on September 8th, 2009 by Matt Sampson - Colorado Web Solutions

It’s been a busy few weeks at Colorado Web Solutions as we launched three brand new WordPress blog sites. We have long felt that blogs (especially wordpress blogs) are extremely effective for SEO and ultimately sales, especially for Yahoo! Stores. These three sites are not tied specifically to a Yahoo! Store, but rather to a collection of stores.

Many people think of Blogs as a way to post news and updates, which they are, but they can be so much more than that as well. These three sites demonstrate that you can built an entire site on the WordPress platform. These sites are not limited to only news and updates!

If you’d like to see some examples of how Colorado Web Solutions is taking the WordPress Platform to a new level, please take a moment to visit the newest sites:

SEO Experiment: Yahoo Store Traction

Posted on April 22nd, 2009 by Matt Sampson - Colorado Web Solutions

Be sure to read the follow up post for this experiment with the results here!

For the last few months, SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has been on everyone’s minds because it’s the best way to save money on your online advertising spend. Good SEO work can eventually take the place of many of your paid terms right now and lead to substantial savings. We have been talking to a lot of customers about our program ( and one of the questions that keeps coming up is “how long does it take to get indexed?” That answer varies from site to site, it really depends on a huge number of variables (including the quality of your site), but it got me thinking… how fast is Google at indexing? How long does it take for a page to get listed from a reputable and well indexed site?

Initial yahoo store traction search 4-22-09So, I decided to do an experiment. I have no idea how this will go, it could be a total bust :), but, I have found a term that, when placed in quotes, returns no results on google. That term is “yahoo store traction“.  What I’ve decided to do is post a blog entry right now that contains the term Yahoo Store Traction. I’ll type it a few different ways and I’ve also included it in the title of the post. I’m not going to go overboard, but I am going to make sure that I get that term mentioned a decent number of times. Once that’s been published, I’ll start searching every hour or so in Google for that exact term “yahoo store traction” and we’ll see how long it takes to get listed.

Why am I doing this? What’s my point? It’s very simple. Each and every one of our subscribers at receives tips and advice from us on a monthly basis. The number one thing we suggest is changing and adding content to the site. In Sentences. At Colorado Web Solutions, we know the incredible importance of fresh content, but now we will have a way to prove it.

Hopefully, in the next few days if anyone happens to search for “yahoo store traction”, they will get a result and it will be ours.
